SAND
A timer you work WITH — not AROUND
SAND is a digital-variable hourglass that helps users feel the passage of time.
For many, especially those who struggle with ADHD and time blindness, this sensation is elusive. ADHD can both make it difficult to stay focused on one task (executive dysfunction), and make it difficult switch out of a task (hyper-fixation); SAND is designed to accommodate both.
Timers can be stressful objects. SAND isn’t. SAND is only as obtrusive as it needs to be. With subtle visual cues and a design that stays out of your way, SAND works with you.
SWITCH MODE:
This is the default mode used to alternate between two different tasks and/or intervals. Whether it’s used to give yourself regular breaks or distribute your attention between two pressing tasks is up to you.
An amount of time can be set on each half (Cyan or Yellow) of the hourglass. Time (or ‘sand’) can be added to whichever half of the hourglass is pointed down by turning the corresponding dial (Cyan /Yellow). The amount & color of the LEDs describe the set time.
Flipping the hourglass stops the current timer and starts the timer for whichever half is now on top. Turning the top dial allows you to ‘push,’ adding time back 30 seconds at a time. The push feature can be used if you need just a bit more time to wrap up, save your progress, finish your current page, etc.
FOCUS MODE:
Focus Mode can be used to help combat time-blindness while you to stay in your groove with whatever task you’re on. In Focus Mode, the hourglass animates sand falling over the course of 10 minutes, changing colors for each 10-minute interval. This provides the user with a gentle visual to help embody the feeling of passing time.
Enter Focus Mode by gently shaking the hourglass for ~2 seconds.
